Have the adventure of a lifetime, experience the ultimate cycling challenge, and help Tibetans in the process!
Introduction
A group of 8-12 intrepid cyclists will raise money for our Medical Aid Program by biking 569 km (356 miles), from Tseto La Pass to Dege, crossing five high passes and traversing many miles of rugged, windswept high plateau. The ride will take place entirely within Ganzi Prefecture, Sichuan province. Each rider has to raise US$2500, about one-third of which will cover travel expenses (food, lodging, support vehicle, transportation between the cycling route and Chengdu), and the rest will go toward our Medical Aid Program. Along the route we can visit some clinics which received medical supplies and equipment thanks to Bike Ride 2001.
During the ride, a support vehicle will carry luggage, spare parts, food, etc, and it will be available to pick up cyclists who are injured or ill, and their bikes.

The following people rode this route for Kham Aid in 2001: David Oliver, Bruce Beattie, Martin Dunphy, James Law, and Pam Logan, who acted as Team Leader.
Information about us, our programs, and travel in Kham can be found at www.khamaid.org.
The Medical Aid Program
During Bike Ride 2001, one member of the bike team, Dr. Bruce Beattie, inspected small rural clinics on the route, interviewed the doctors, and made recommendations as to what supplies and equipment would make the biggest different in the standard of health care offered to local Tibetans. That ride raised about $11,000, which was used to purchase and deliver the needed items, as is described in this report. Please write to program director Linda Griffin for more information.
