On the afternoon of December 8, the consul general of American Consulate in Chengdu-- Mr. David Bleyle, and his accompaniers, economic consul Madame Susan A. Thornton and economic assistant Mr. Yang Shoumo, attended the Sign Unveiling Ceremony for Egu Bridge, which was built with funds contributed by U.S. Government, with the companion of the leaders of Yajiang County.
On Feburuary 23,2001, there happened a strong earthquake with 6 degrees of magnitude at the joint of Yajiang, Kangding, Jiulong, Litang and Daocheng. After the earthquake, the U.S.Government Office of Foreign Disaster Assistance authorized the Embassy to contribute $40,000 to rebuild the bridge in Egu township, leading to the townships of Boshihe, Bayirong, Yayihe and Egu, and destroyed by the earthquake, with the arrangement of Kham Aid Foundation.
The new Egu Bridge is a stone arch bridge with the span of 15 meters, a space of 12.7 meters between the two foundations, a height of 3.97 meters and a concrete surface measuring 31m x 5.2m x 0.2m. This bridge construction was started on September 23, and completed on December 6.
