Dear Friends of Kham,
The year 2009 has been an exceptional year for our scholarship program: a large number - thirteen! - of our sponsored students scored high on the civil service exam and won coveted government jobs.
For each government job opening there are a dozen or more applicants. "One of our sponsored girls once told me," writes our education program director, "that she was scared by the scene of thousands of people taking exams."
These young women will not only be able to provide for themselves and their families, they will be influential in their communities and role models for other young women. They will also make it unnecessary for the government to import talent from outside Kham to provide essential services.
