Kham Aid Foundation
Scholarship Program Policies
Kham Aid has
investigated similar one-on-one sponsorship programs run by other
organizations. From this investigation we have identified a set of
Best Practices that protect the safety of both sponsors and
children. These are:
- To prevent inappropriate requests or
politically sensitive material being sent by either side,
communication between sponsor and child should pass through Kham
Aid Foundation staff. This includes communication by telephone,
postal mail, and e-mail.
- Sponsors planning to travel to Kham to
visit their children should contact Kham Aid in advance to
request a Kham Aid staff person who will accompany the sponsor
and act as guide, interpreter, and chaperone. Visits should be
organized so as to avoid any impression whatsoever of an
improper relationship between the sponsor and child.
- Children should not be asked for pro bono
services such as translation or tour-guiding.
- Sponsors should not travel with their
sponsored child away from the child’s home or school under any
circumstances.
