We recently received a donation of 1800 yuan (US$264) from our former sponsored student Yan Ying. Words cannot express how thrilled we are that this young woman, despite the difficulties faced by her own family, wants to help younger students achieve the same success that she has won with the help of her sponsor. Below you will find Yan Ying's translated letter and the original hand-written version.
Sincerely yours,
Pam Logan, President, Kham Aid Foundation
Dear Aunts and Uncles in Kham Aid Foundation,
I am a Tibetan girl sponsored
persistently by your organization since I started my junior middle school.
Thanks to your kindly and persistent help, I could realize my dream to
attend college. Now I am happily leading my second year of college life, in
the Tibetan Language Department of Sichuan College for Nationalities (former
name: Kangding Normal College). This is very good college for study, and I
could learn lots of very useful knowledge. I was ranked the first in my
class last semester through my hard work. Thanks to your support and
concerns, I could reach my today's
good grade.
Last year, I have chance to attend the recruitment exams for town and township civil servants in Ganzi Prefecture, I successfully passed all of the exams and started my new posting as a civil servant in April. Moreover, the college still keeps my student status until my completion of college education. Now I can make monthly salary of more than one thousand yuan. I am very satisfied with this situation and I could reduce lots of burden of my family. In the past few months, I have always worked hard and dutifully in my post to repay the society though sometimes I encountered difficulty which was hard for me to cope with. But this is a very good chance for me to improve myself. Actually all of this is the results of your kindly help and support. I wouldn't have my today's life without your help. Many thanks!
You know my family's situation. My grandmother has entangled by schizophrenia for more than ten years, my mother has suffered from heart attacks, and my father has been laid-off for a long time. In spite of my family's difficulties, I am sure the situation will be improved and will become better and better through our hard work. Now I can help my family with some financial problem.
In my future life, no matter whether I study in college or work in my post, I will do my best to do well in every task. I hereby make a promise that I will do my best to help several or more other needy students as you are doing, when I am better with my work and life in order to pass down the love you offered to me. You have changed my fate, thank you!
Moreover, I discussed with my family and got their approval for the donation of 1800 yuan, the wage of my first month in my post, to help the needy student who is entangled by poverty. In the future, I will try my best to help the poor students to pass down your love.
Your sponsored student: Yan Ying
