Come with Kham Aid Foundation to the eastern Tibetan plateau where sacred Buddhist murals, some of them hundreds of years old, have miraculously survived in a handful of remote villages and temples.    Learn from expert conservators the delicate and demanding art of restoring damaged paintings back to their original beauty.  This adventurous two-week trip is unlike anything you’ve ever experienced, a remarkable way to make a difference in Tibet.

Trip features

  • Six days of actual hands-on work repairing, cleaning, or retouching Tibetan works of art, guided by experienced conservators from Nepal as you work side by side with Tibetan students.
  • Sightseeing in Kangding: visit famous Paoma Shan (Race Horse Mountain), Dorje Drak Monastery, and wander the market by Kangding’s sacred town spring.
  • Trip to Pusarong to see the paintings at Trupa Lhakhang, including a one-hour horseback ride to reach the temple at its remote mountain redoubt.
  • Half day visit to the Tagong Grasslands, including Tagong Monastery.
  • Optional: stay one night in a nomad tent and/or several nights in a Tibetan village house, hosted by Tibetan families.
  • On your way back to Chengdu, there’s a stop at the Wolong Panda Breeding Center.

Trip starts and ends in the city of Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan province. Each group is limited to ten participants.

Cost: US$1800, and includes all lodging (twin-share basis), transportation, and meals from the evening of the first day to the morning of 14th day.  Transportation from your home to and from Chengdu is not included.
