Read what past volunteers have said about the trip...

"When I read notice of the project to invite a number of volunteers to form a group to assist with wall painting conservation in the Kham Region I immediately applied.  The program was excellent.  We not only did something "hands-on" useful in helping with the conservation but had the delightful experience of interacting with the people living in the village.

The trip was an extraordinary and enjoyable experience where we not only were able to enjoy the beauty of the country but also meet, interact and gain more understanding of the culture of the Kham people than would be possible with a conventional tour program. I gained a lot and would without question recommend this trip to anyone curious about and interested in the Kham people and their Tibet. "

Kim Chai, another art conservation volunteer from our 2007 trip stated, " I loved the trip; one of the best I've ever done; It meant learning about a fabulous culture and region, and going beyond "the tourist gaze" to do something useful for the community."

"The trip to conserve art and architecture of Wayao provided a rewarding opportunity to meet and work alongside local Tibetans in East Tibet and fellow like-minded volunteers.

The region of Kham sells itself.  Wonderful traditional architecture from fortified farmhouses with enthusiastic interested owners, rustic tsampa mills and soaring Minyak towers to ancient temples and monasteries, nomad encampments, unspoilt villages and stunning Alpine and grassland landscapes, and incredibly friendly local population; the ride up to the temple of Juba Lhakhang at Pusarong and the sight of the amazing Buddhist murals there being a particular highlight of the trip.  Whilst it was not my first visit to the region, the untiring dedication, friendly and helpful organisation of Kham Aid staff made the trip with new friendships forged, interests rekindled, and future travel plans certainly inspired.

A thoroughly amazing journey and memorable experience that you’ll want to repeat."
